The extreme rainfall events in 2022 resulted in two landslip incidents along this section of road. Emergency repairs were completed at the time but the area has continued to experience movement.
Permanent works need to be done now to avoid the risk of further slippage.
These are complex works that involve cutting into the uphill rock face to realign the slope of the road for more than 250 metres to make it stable and much safer. Importantly they are also upgrading the drainage.
The nature of the works, steep terrain and dense vegetation requires the road to be temporarily closed over the coming weeks.
From Monday 28 April:
- Closed on weeknights between 8pm and 5am
- Closed on Weekends from 8pm Friday to 5am Monday.
These closures will be in place until Mid-June.
I know this will be disruptive for our community, but it is critical this road is safe for the 22,000 people who use it every day.
During this time please plan ahead and factor in extra travel time when travelling at night or over the weekends.
