Automated gates will be installed on both sides of Audley Weir to stop vehicles from crossing during flooding, and new live-traffic cameras will be installed to monitor flood levels, Heathcote MP Maryanne Stuart announced on Wednesday.

Ms Stuart said gates were expected to be in place in early 2025, subject to approvals.

Ms Stuart said the moves followed the installation of live-traffic cameras to allow agencies and the community to view flood levels at the weir.

Permanent electronic signs, warning of weir closures, had been installed at multiple locations, she said.

Ms Stuart said Transport for NSW has been working closely with National Parks and Wildlife Services and Sutherland Shire Council on resolving this critical issue.

Ms Stuart said she met with the Minister for Roads John Graham on September 24 tyo discuss Audley Weir.

Management strategies for debris caught in the weir was among matters discussed.

"The community is encouraged to contact Transport for NSW on 131 700 to report any issues related to the weir," she said.
