Heathcote MP Maryanne Stuart has encouraged residents of all ages to consider applying for a 2023 Bert Evans Apprentice Scholarship.
The program will provide $15,000 to 150 apprentices who are facing personal or financial hardship.
Successful applicants must also display: a capability for vocational education and training; and a positive attitude and application in the workplace and in off-the-job training.
The scholarship is named after the late Bert Evans AO – who was a passionate advocate for vocational education.
“These scholarships are a great opportunity that I encourage eligible residents throughout Heathcote electorate to consider applying for,” Mrs Stuart said.
The Heathcote MP is a proud graduate of Gymea TAFE where she studied industrial relations.
During her inaugural speech to parliament last night, Mrs Stuart also spoke about her passion for TAFE.
“TAFE is another great passion of mine,” Mrs Stuart said during her speech.
“I’m a very proud beneficiary of TAFE.
“However, in those days TAFE was a vibrant hub for learning – not the ghost towns they have become today.
“Make no mistake, TAFE changes lives, and sometimes saves them.”
Applications for the 2023 Bert Evans Apprentice Scholarships program close July 21.
