Commuters encouraged to have their say at Bus Passenger Forums

Heathcote MP Maryanne Stuart wishes to remind residents that the NSW government wants to hear from commuters about how we can build a better bus service network.

Bus commuters in the Sutherland Shire have been through a lot since the former Government signed a contract last year with a provider that was unsuitable for the area. I’m determined not to see repeats of the scenes that we saw last year after that contract was signed.

Bus Passenger Forums are being held in Sutherland this week on the 22nd and 23rd of March.  Ms Stuart wants this opportunity to be used by residents and be, the catalyst of significant improvement in bus services across Region 10, which includes the Shire.

The NSW Government started the Bus Industry Taskforce to make recommendations to improve the reliability, quality and effectiveness of bus services across NSW. The Taskforce is engaging directly with passengers and local communities to hear what people want to get from their bus services.

Members of the public and representatives from community groups, local businesses and non-government organisations have been invited to have their say at Bus Passenger Forums across NSW. Wollongong hosted a Bus Passenger Forum for residents of the Illawarra on 13 October last year.

The Bus Passenger Forums for Sutherland will be held at:

•          Friday 22 March, 11:00am - 12:30pm, Club on East, 7 East Parade, Sutherland NSW 2232

•          Saturday 23 March, 10:00am - 11:30am, Sutherland Bus Interchange, East Parade, Sutherland NSW 2232

Commuters and residents can register to join in on the day at https://www.haveyoursay.nsw.gov.au/bus-industry-taskforce?tool=survey_tool&tool_id=register-for-an-in-person-session#tool_tab

Those who are unable to attend can still provide their feedback by visiting https://www.haveyoursay.nsw.gov.au/bus-industry-taskforce

Quotes attributable to Maryanne Stuart MP, Member for Heathcote:

“Since last year, we’ve seen a big improvement in service but there is still a long way to go.”

“The best way to stop service issues is to hear directly from the people who rely on the service each day about what is happening currently and what can be done to improve them.”
