Construction is officially underway on upgrades to Wollongong Hospital, which will deliver enhanced health services and infrastructure for the Illawarra.

The upgrades are part of the Minns Labor Government $21.9 million investment at Wollongong Hospital, which will deliver an additional MRI unit and CT scanner, as well as a relocated and enhanced Medical Ambulatory Care (MAC) unit.

This enhancement will enable expansion of the hospital’s Transit Lounge to help meet increased demand for outpatient services, and to better support the flow of patients through the hospital.

Following extensive planning, the new medical imaging suite will be located within the hospital’s atrium. This area will provide the necessary space to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the additional CT and MRI machines.

Taylor Construction Group has been appointed to deliver the project, with the project scheduled to be complete in early 2026.

The Minns Labor Government is investing in new and upgraded hospitals across the Illawarra Shoalhaven, with construction also underway on the $438 million Shoalhaven Hospital Redevelopment and the more than $780 million new Shellharbour Hospital and Integrated Services Project. Planning is also underway for a $7.5 million upgrade of Milton Ulladulla Hospital.
