Get NSW Active funding boosts active transport in Heathcote electorate

03 August 2026

The latest round of Get NSW Active funding has been announced with residents across the Heathcote electorate sharing part of $60 million to deliver projects that will promote the health and mobility of citizens.

Wollongong City Council has been granted $800,000 to support the development of pedestrian infrastructure upgrades in Stanwell Park.

A new footpath and safe intersection treatments along Station Street, between Lawrence Hargrave Drive and Stanwell Park Beach Reserve, will complete a missing pedestrian link.

This project will make active travel easier and accessible through direct connections for residents, students and visitors to the area.

Transport for NSW received 244 applications from 101 councils across NSW this year and 79 projects were successful in receiving funding for a range of upgrades including shared paths, active transport links and “quietways” where busy roads are turned into peaceful pedestrian and cycle-friendly precincts.

Member for Heathcote, Maryanne Stuart MP said:

“Through the latest round of Get NSW Active, our community is sharing in a statewide investment of $60 million to support healthier, safer and more connected neighbourhoods.

I’m pleased to see Wollongong City Council receive $800,000 to deliver pedestrian upgrades in Stanwell Park. The community has been calling for action and I congratulate Wollongong City Council for showing initiative in applying for and securing Get NSW Active funding to address these concerns.

Completing the missing link along Station Street will make it easier for residents, students and visitors to move around safely and enjoy active travel in this beautiful part of our electorate.”
