Member for Heathcote, Maryanne Stuart MP has praised the community and emergency services for their response to the incident that occurred in Engadine on Sunday the 25th of August, highlighting the services available to those impacted.
Ms Stuart has spoken to the Minister for Police on Sunday when the incident occurred, and the days that followed: “I thank those who were so courageous in putting themselves in harm’s way to save others and due to this, received injuries themselves. We now await a full Police Investigation.”
Ms. Stuart has visited residents, witnesses and emergency services who attended the scene:
“Residents described the distressing nature of the incident; I encouraged them to reach out to local mental health services if they feel they need to”.
“I have met with Superintendent Don Faulks, Sutherland Police Area Command and visited our Emergency Service Stations to check in on the Crews who attended."
“I have also reached out to those passing by who stopped to help, those I can identify.”
“I wish to thank all those who were so brave including the young Police Officer who was injured. We wish those injured a speedy recovery.”
Ms Stuart, a long-standing resident of Engadine knows her community and the area well:
“It never ceases to amaze me how selfless and generous our community is. However, I am mindful of the impact these events can have.”
It is very clear, that my community has been traumatised by this incident and I encourage everyone seek assistance, if needed.”
