Heathcote MP Maryanne Stuart said the establishment of an independent panel into gaming reform was a positive step to addressing problem gambling and curbing money laundering.
The panel, chaired by former NSW Officer of Liquor, Gaming and Racing Commissioner, Michael Foggo, will oversee and evaluate the cashless gaming trial.
The panel will also manage the implementation of the NSW Government’s gaming reform roadmap by November 2024.
The panel will consist of 16 members including representatives from law enforcement, gambling and health experts, academics and industry stakeholders.
The panel will also make recommendations to the NSW Government regarding the possible introduction of a cashless gaming card.
The NSW Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing’s last six monthly gaming machine report (July 2022 – December 2022) showed clubs and hotels throughout the state recorded approximately $4.2 billion worth of net profits during the period.
Clubs and hotels in the Wollongong local government area (LGA) alone recorded net profits totalling more than $102 million, while those in the Sutherland LGA exceeded $71 million.
