REDUCED WORKLOAD FOR HEATHCOTE PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS
Heathcote MP Maryanne Stuart has applauded the NSW Government’s decision to appoint hundreds of extra specialist support staff who will lighten the workload of public school teachers throughout the state – including in Heathcote.
The announcement was made by Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, Prue Car, at a round table today.
The round table was formed to urgently address the plethora of challenges facing public school teachers.
From Term 3 this year, another 284 public school will be able to employ the equivalent of 400 fulltime staff.
The expansion of the program will help to assess the best way to implement the program across all 2200 schools in 2024.
Tasks from the new administration staff include:
Preparing excursions, liaising with bus companies and their drivers, and organising permission slips
Inputting student performance data into spreadsheets
Managing parental payments
Updating newsletters, social media, and school apps and texting parents about events
Filling out health plans for students
Lesson timetabling
Heathcote MP Maryanne Stuart said the extra specialist support staff would help reduce the ever-increasing workload faced by teachers in the public school system.
“This is yet another way the NSW Government is helping to reduce the workloads of public school teachers,” she said.
“It means teachers can do what they do best – and that’s teach.
“The more paperwork and administrative tasks teachers have to complete, the less time they spend educating students.
“I have worked closely with teachers throughout the Heathcote electorate to ensure they have the support and resources they need to thrive.”
