Heathcote running clubs can apply for up to $500,000 funding under the Minns Labor Government’s new grant program to improve running safety and increase participation by women, girls and gender diverse people.

The Run My Way Grant Program will provide funding to Heathcote running organisations to implement practical measures, programs and partnerships that help participants feel safer, more confident and connected when running in their communities.

Grants between $5,000 - $100,000 are available with applicants able to submit up to two applications with a maximum grant amount of $100,000.

The Run My Way Grant Program is part of Transport for NSW’s $1.3 million multi-year collaboration with the NSW Office of Sport under the Safer Cities Program, Run My Way, which includes research, partnerships and program trials.

Member for Heathcote, Ms Maryanna Stuart MP said:

“Running offers significant physical and mental health benefits, fosters connection and improves wellbeing.

“But for many people in our community it is associated with fear and harassment.

“The Run My Way Grant Program aims to improve running experiences and perceptions of safety for women, girls and gender diverse runners in our community.

“I encourage all Heathcote running organisations and providers to apply for funding for innovative ideas that will make running more welcoming, inclusive and supportive.”

Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said:

“Running should be an activity that is enjoyable, inclusive and accessible to everyone.

“The Run My Way program is a Minns Labor Government initiative designed to help more women get active and importantly, feel safer while participating in sport.

“By removing barriers and creating safer, more welcoming spaces, we can help more women participate in the benefits of running.”

Minister for Women Jodie Harrison said:

“Running is experiencing a resurgence, especially among women, who see it as a way to get out into the fresh air and get fit.

“But we also know that many women have said they’ve felt unsafe or experienced harassment on a run.

“The Minns Labor Government is working to build a safer New South Wales for women and girls, and boost their participation in sport. We’re encouraging local sporting organisations and clubs to apply for the Run My Way grants and show us your new ideas on how to help people feel safer and more confident running in their local area.”
