Heathcote MP Maryanne Stuart has met with Superintendent Mark Wall and Chief Inspector Matt Webb from the Police Transport Command to discuss public safety on NSW Public Transport.
Following alleged assaults of Bulli High School students travelling north on the South Coast Line in March 2024, Mrs Stuart has worked closely with members of the community, Bulli High School, Transport for NSW, and NSW Police to improve safety on public transport in the electorate.
These meetings with stakeholders led to the introduction of three new bus services between Helensburgh and Bulli High School, ensuring safer and faster travel for Bulli High School students.
Mrs Stuart will continue to work with Superintendent Wall and Chief Inspector Webb from the Police Transport Command to maintain safety on public transport networks within the region.
Superintendent Wall’s advice for responding to a dangerous situation on public transport was to call 000 if you feel that your safety is at risk.
He encouraged members of the public to report criminal activity and antisocial behaviour by contacting the Police Assistance Line on 131 444, Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or to make an online report: https://portal.police.nsw.gov.au
Rail safety week commences from the 5th to 11th of August. During this time officers from the Youth Command and Police Transport Command will be visiting High Schools in the area to talk about safe practices on public transport and encourage students to contact police if they are a victim of crime or to report crimes on public transport.
