Heathcote MP Maryanne Stuart says the introduction of seatbelt cameras in 2024 will dramatically improve the safety of motorists. From mid-next year, mobile phone detection cameras will also be used to enforce seatbelt offences. Between 2018 and 2022, more than 140 lives were lost on NSW roads in fatal crashes where people were not wearing a seatbelt. Every dollar collected from seatbelt cameras will also be invested back into road safety initiatives, which is already the case for fines resulting from speeding, red light and average speed camera offences.
