Heathcote MP Maryanne Stuart says the NSW Government and National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is determined to reopen the Sublime Point walking track as soon as possible.
The track was closed in March 2022 after heavy rains triggered rock falls.
A report by NPWS identified over 90 individual landside risks along the track.
NPWS will now:
· Develop a remediation plan prior to carrying out any work
· Physically inspect identified hazards to confirm the condition, hazard classification and remediation strategy
· Implement a trigger action response plan based on rainfall thresholds
The Sublime Point Walking Track will continue to be closed whilst these works take place to reopen the track as soon as possible.
Quotes attributable to Maryanne Stuart MP, Member for Heathcote:
“The Sublime Point walking track is a popular destination for Illawarra residents and visitors to the area.
“We all want to see this track opened again but the safety of those using the track is the number one priority.
“I’d like to acknowledge Minister Sharpe and NPWS for their efforts regarding this complex and delicate project.”
