There are so many wonderful organisations located throughout the Heathcote electorate. One of those organisations in Dunlea Centre in Engadine. The registered charity's aim is simple – to help families and children who are at risk of a family breakdown, and to restore those relationships. While the aim may be simple, achieving that goal requires incredible passion, patience and persistence on behalf of the team at the centre. Dunlea Centre also acts as an out-of-home care service and a residence for students. The centre was originally founded in 1939 and called Boys Town, after the original Boys Town in Nebraska, in the United States of America. However, in 2010, the need for a residential girls' unit was identified and so a name change of the facility also followed. The Dunlea Centre has entered into a range of partnerships over the years in order to expand its services. Partners have included: Centracare; Bankstown Community Services Co-operative; the Catholic Education Office; the Knights of the Southern Cross Community Services; Engadine District Community Aid and Information Service; and the NSW Department of Education. Thank you to those at Dunlea Centre for your efforts and hard work.
