I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all individuals and organisations involved in the extensive flood recovery efforts across the Heathcote electorate. The recent floods in April have presented unprecedented challenges, but it is through our collective resilience and dedication that we will overcome them. I extend my sincerest appreciation to the Minister for Transport, the Minister for Emergency Services, Wollongong City Council, State Emergency Service personnel, local police and government agencies for their unwavering commitment to supporting our community during this challenging time. The tireless efforts, dedication and collaboration of all those services have been instrumental in providing essential assistance and resources to those affected by the floods. I extend my gratitude to Wollongong City Council for its proactive response and comprehensive approach to flood recovery. The council's commitment to hosting community information sessions in various suburbs, including Thirroul, demonstrates its dedication to ensuring that residents and businesses receive the support and information they need during this challenging time.
The collaborative efforts of Wollongong City Council, State Emergency Service and local agencies exemplify the strength and resilience of our community. Through coordinated initiatives such as customer service pop‑ups, community updates and liaison with State agencies, they effectively addressed the needs and concerns of over 6,000 individuals impacted by the floods. Additionally, their coordination with State agencies and provision of customer service staff exemplifies their commitment to addressing the needs and concerns of our residents. I also commend the focus on community safety, particularly the clearing of creeks and culverts to mitigate future risks. Their collaboration with the Reconstruction Authority and Infrastructure NSW to discuss short‑term recovery actions, adaptation strategies and enhancement efforts is crucial for safeguarding the wellbeing of our residents.
I also express my gratitude to State Emergency Service personnel and local police for their swift response and ongoing support in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our community members. Their dedication and professionalism in the face of adversity have been commendable and I thank them for their continued efforts. I thank the Minister for Transport for repair of the railways throughout the recovery process, keeping the community on the move. As we navigate through the recovery process, I urge all levels of government and community organisations to continue working collaboratively to provide the necessary support and resources to those in need. Together, we can ensure that no‑one is left behind as we rebuild and recover from the devastation of the floods. I extend my deepest gratitude to all individuals and organisations involved in the flood recovery efforts across the Heathcote electorate. Their collective efforts embody the spirit of resilience and solidarity, and I am proud to stand alongside them as we work towards rebuilding our community stronger than ever before. I thank them all for their hard work, commitment and resilience throughout this time.
