I congratulate Nick Tsaccounis from Heathcote High School, who recently received a Minister's award for teaching excellence at the 2024 Public Education Awards. The award recognises excellence in teaching practice and broader school initiatives. Mr Tsaccounis has made a significant and measurable contribution to improved student outcomes in learning for students. Nick is a dedicated teacher who makes a concerted effort to know his students and their needs, practices good pedagogy and engages with his colleagues and community. Nick's mantra for his outstanding teaching and students' results is to "start with high expectations and hold the students to it" and to "collaborate with other staff". His outstanding teaching, knowledge and passion for graphics was highlighted in the 2023 HSC, when 84 per cent of his students received a band 6. When the Deputy Premier and I recently met Nick we witnessed his passion and dedication to students and public education. Congratulations, Nick, on this incredibly well-deserved award. We are all so proud of you.
