Relay for Life Sutherland

Relay for Life events were held throughout Australia on Saturday, May 6, raising much needed funds for the Cancer Council. I was fortunate to attend this year's Sutherland event held at Wanda Beach's Don Lucas Reserve. The response from the community was incredible with thousands of locals flocking to the event. There were carers, people in remission, those currently suffering from cancer, family, friends and others who simply wanted to show their support. The Sutherland community is famous for lending a hand to help others in need – and this year's Relay for Life was no exception. I must also particularly acknowledge the students, staff and teachers at my former school, St John Bosco College, Engadine, for raising more than $27,000 this year. The Cancer Council states that events like Relay for Life have saved more than 61,000 Australian lives with funds going towards: school safe programs; treatments; nurses; transport costs volunteer training; and research. Thank you to the Cancer Council again for putting on such a worthwhile event. And a huge thank you to all those who participated in Relay for Life events and the locals who volunteered.
